Creating Vital Places: A Hands-On Training for Building Healthy, Social, and Vibrant Communities
Date: Saturday, September 28th
Time: 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Location: STIPO, A Lab, Overhoeksplein 2, 1031 KS Amsterdam, Netherlands
Join us in Amsterdam for an exciting inaugural event that will transform how you think about urban spaces and community life. This immersive training, held right after Placemaking Week Europe in Rotterdam, offers a unique opportunity to dive deep into the art and science of creating places where social life thrives—where people meet new friends, find love, enjoy local food and drink, and build lasting community bonds.
At 2:30 PM we will travel to Amsterdam East for a special social life tour of the Dappermarkt, over 100 years old and attracting no less than 15,000 people per day. It has been named one of National Geographic’s favorite places, a world's best shopping street—a true people's market—with the legendary Amsterdam Placemaker, Peter Groenendaal.
Why Attend?
The design of our cities and neighborhoods plays a crucial role in our well-being. Yet, the connection between the physical environment, social life, and public health is often overlooked. This training will equip you with practical and actionable tools, methods and knowledge to change that. You’ll learn how to create vibrant, healthy spaces that encourage connection and vitality, making your community a place where everyone wants to spend time.
What to Expect:
- Interactive Learning: Engage in dynamic, hands-on activities that will teach you practical techniques for fostering social life in your community.
- Expert Insights: Learn from seasoned experts trained by the founders of the placemaking movement, who will share proven strategies and real-world case studies.
- Networking Opportunities: Connect with like-minded professionals and community leaders who share your passion for vibrant, healthy places.
- Delicious Lunch & Market Tour: Enjoy a catered lunch and, for those who wish, join us for an optional market tour led by a leading expert in market cities.
Who Should Attend?
This training is perfect for public servants, urban planners, transportation officials, community leaders, real estate developers, local business owners, and anyone passionate about creating spaces that support health and social life.
We want this training to be accessible to all who are interested. The cost is $75, with scholarships available for those who need financial assistance. Our goal is to cover our costs for organizing the event and providing lunch, so please contact us if you require a scholarship.
